Irony as a useful tool is what is at question for me. Irony as a major fashion force seems to dilute any real strength for irony. Or as I once over heard, "Hipster's ironic fashion trend is the symptom of what is already."

"The Age of Irony seemingly began at the same time Seinfeld did, slipping into living rooms and intoxicating Americans with its self-consciously cynical pose just as the 1980s edged toward their close."

Yes, you make a strong connection between mass media and its effects on visual arts, with which I agree. Even before Seinfeld, the TV series Rosanne helped pave the way for sarcasm and cynicism, upon which Seinfeld added irony and light-hearted witticism. Yet, while the Second Nature show may indicate a conclusion to the age of irony, it cannot help but still perpetuate a look back to it, as the article's show images suggest.

Is sincerity coming back headstrong? Or is it still regarded as kitsch? Will irony be kitsch? Perhaps this exhibition challenges those notions....Or perhaps the visual arts scene will merely have a healthier more balanced dose of irony.
